St. Michael's Parish has committed itself to future funding by the means of stewardship.  Stewardship is a program built on faith, which asks families for a sacrificial gift based on their financial resources.  Parents determine what sacrifices are necessary to ensure a Catholic education, bearing in mind the actual cost to educate their child.  Individual families are the decision-makers for building up the Kingdom of God.

The parish trusts the parents to arrive at decisions that reflect a true sense of sacrificial sharing in which people respond to the larger community, the Christian value of justice, and the command of Jesus to love one another.  Giving is based on trust, honesty and recognition that all we have comes from God.  God's purpose is that we be good stewards of these gifts by using them responsibly, generously, and wisely for building up the Kingdom of God.

Almost $0.70 of every dollar collected in our parish goes to support the school.  Without tuition, the collection basket is our main revenue source.  As St. Michael's school parents, we have to ask ourselves if we are doing everything we can financially to keep our school alive and well.  School parents will receive annual guidelines and commitment cards to enable them to move toward a minimum sacrificial gift to the parish of 5% of their household income.

Who Is a Christian Steward?

"One, who receives God's gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others, and returns them with increase to the Lord."

-U.S. Bishops' 1992 pastoral letter "Stewardship:  A Disciple's Response"

"Generosity is not giving what is easy to give, but giving what is hard to give.  That is why it is possible to give, without being generous.  True generosity exacts something from the giver.  To be generous is to give that it costs.  Those who give generously do so at great cost to themselves."

- "Characteristics of a Christian Steward," Catholic Diocese of Wichita, p.30
